X Café Description:
The ambience of this well-located restaurant combines ski-town casual and '50s diner. Old-style booths and a retro brown-and-orange color scheme are both comfortable and comforting, while a seating area with deep couches is especially welcoming to singles and couples who like free-form drinking and snacking. X Café doesn't serve full breakfasts, but locals pop in for morning pastries and coffee to take on the gondola for their aerial commute to jobs at Mountain Village. The lunch-dinner menu includes daily specials as well as modern twists on American favorites and vegetarian-friendly fare. For starters, spoon up some silky butternut squash soup. Salads include Caesar with chicken or mahi mahi. In addition to burgers, fast fare features wraps and panini. We like the decadent grownup PB&J, featuring foie gras, pecan butter and fig jam. Main courses range from baby-back ribs to filling lamb stew, chili to tenderloin and crunchy pecan-crusted chicken breast. X Café offers a variety of fondues as well, among which we've enjoyed the combination of aged cheddar with waffle fries, Fontina-truffle and lobster-Brie with focaccia. There's always a dessert fondue, too, usually chocolate. Most of the wines on the moderately sized list are also available by the glass.
