At Chopmist Charlie's, New England seafood is the specialty, broiled, fried or au gratin, offered in a comfortable, casual atmosphere that is set by wide plank pine flooring, mounted fish, aquaria and other nautical memorabilia. Also offers clam cakes, lobster rolls, stuffies, weiners, cheese steaks and, of course, chowder. Full service bar. Open seven days a week.
You won't be wowed by any of the preparations at this basic New England seafood restaurant. It's a matter of choosing to have the main attraction baked, broiled or fried, and it's best to stick to the standards. You can't go wrong with the fish 'n' chips, stuffies (stuffed clams), calamari or chowder (including the clear, Rhode Island variety). Due to its location on Jamestown's main drag, Narragansett Avenue, it can get pretty busy in the summertime and on weekends, though we find better luck getting a table here on hot summer nights, when diners flock to other nearby restaurants that, unlike Charlie's, have outdoor seating. The expansive bar is a destination in itself, and the menu is a distinct step up from pub grub; the quaint and comfortable nautical setting will still make you feel like you're "dining out" rather than grabbing a quick bite.
