Café Nuovo Description:
Café Nuovo is a good yardstick for the Providence dining scene: always eager, often first-rate and sometimes awkward. The view of the Providence River is rivaled only by the food---especially the made-for-RISD desserts. Chef Jason Hook's menu is long and meanders from the pastures of Lombardy to the streets of Seoul and Saigon---and that's just one leg of the trip. Desserts are worthy of a Getty grant for their combination of taste, integrity and, of course, looks. Crème brûlée is a flight of fancy and the seasonal fruit garnish is drenched with orange-blossom syrup.
