With one of the most dazzling views on the New England seacoast, The Cliff House has long been a destination resort and spa---long as in since 1872, and the dining room draws in locals and visitors alike. Fresh local seafood is a must. Try oysters harvested nearby, served with a Champagne mignonette, or Pemaquid Maine mussels, another regional option, with some heat from andouille sausage. Line-caught halibut comes with Israeli couscous, shaved fennel and a local-blueberry gastrique, but many opt for one of the classic steak dishes, including a sirloin from New England-raised beef served with a tangy house-made steak sauce and a gratin of Maine potatoes. Desserts use local ingredients as well. Try the apple brown Betty with plenty of warmth from nutmeg or a chocolate mousse that is rich and creamy.
