98 Province Description:
The madding crowd strolling the touristed streets of Ogunquit seem far, far away while dining inside the little country house called 98 Provence and the cuisine takes you even further into the French countryside. The staff is warm and welcoming and knows the simple, elegant French menu inside and out. Start with the earthy escargots in a light tart shell with leeks and a warm hazelnut butter or a salad composed with the produce from nearby gardens. A specialty of the house is a cassoulet with duck confit, lamb shoulder and fig pork sausage, a hearty fall dish. Choose the savory tart with braised sweetbreads, seared foie gras and apples for a rich combination of classic ingredients. Anything made with Armagnac is a must, but the rack of lamb with cumin, garlic and lemon confit will transport you to a sunny hillside by a farm. Desserts change frequently and are always a delight as in a traditional apple tart made with tangy just-soft apples and sweet pastry. It's the vacation to southern France you never had the time to take.
