Desert Fire Description:
Serving southwestern food with an American flair. Located in the Redmond Town Center Mall. The menu features combinations of peppers, onions, and traditional southwestern spices, along with non-spicy items. Reservations are recommended on the weekends and for large parties.
Desert Fire, adjacent to Redmond's upscale Town Square shopping village, is a sophisticated, movie-set version of the Southwest. Pale Ponderosa pine, open fireplaces and artisan handicrafts embellish the interior providing a soothing respite for those who've shopped till they want to drop---into a frozen margarita. Surprisingly, the food here has more character than you'd expect from a theme restaurant. Your meal begins with soft breadsticks elegantly presented in a pottery vase. Recommended starters range from mojo de ajo, shrimp and mushrooms sautéed in a slightly spicy sauce of rich butter, chile guajillo and fresh garlic; chicken nachos supreme; and corn-crusted calamari served golden brown with chipotle rémoulade. Entrées are equally inspired. There is lightly smoked salmon topped with spicy pecans, and the curious tumbleweed chicken fried steak that's hand-battered, fried golden brown and topped with jalapeño cream gravy. Heat levels mild to moderate aim for the mainstream palate. Quench any smoldering fires with a dessert of deep-fried buñuelo filled with vanilla ice cream, but be sure not to skip the cinnamon-y Mexican chocolate mousse if it's available.
