Waterman Grille Description:
Located in an old bridge gatehouse on the Seekonk River, the Waterman Grille may be best known among summertime crowds for its semi-enclosed deck, but well-heeled East Side locals fill its warm, wood-scented main dining room even on chilly autumn weeknights. We know why: it serves some of the most uniformly first-rate meals we've had in Providence. Perky but professional servers present an intriguing list of appetizers and cocktails, including a rich blood-orange martini. We recommend the tender Szechuan beef skewers, marinated in a garlic sauce spiced up with cracked black pepper, but the steamed mussels also tempt. Served as an entrée side, the grains and greens salad is a charming mix of field greens and red onions with couscous, wheat and barley in a light Champagne vinaigrette; the signature Waterman salad is enlivened with an intriguing honey-lavender vinaigrette. Ahi pad thai is served with toasted cashews instead of peanuts. We can't resist nightly specials like a side of dense and creamy red-pepper risotto---which often means we can't even think about dessert.
