The 1770 House Restaurant & Inn Description:
The 1770 House (actually built in 1663) transports you to another era. One of the oldest homes in the village, the inn has been beautifully restored, decorated with antique furniture, traditional upholstery and historical objects. Take a seat in the dining room under the exposed beams or in the lovely garden. Wherever you are, you cannot go wrong with Kevin Penner's American menu. A Japanese yellowtail appetizer with "bacon and eggs" surprises: it's paired with a cooked quail egg, tea-smoked pork and a citrus-soy vinaigrette. The salad mix of mâche, melon from Cavaillon, endive, blue cheese and bacon is fresh and balanced. Pan-roasted escolar with bok choy and rice noodles in a spicy chili broth effortlessly bridges East and West, while the duck breast, plump and juicy with a truffle jus, bursts with classic flavors. The well-curated wine list features strong selections from the top vineyards of France, California and Italy---note the selection of California's Opus One. Chef Penner has one of the finest kitchens in the Hamptons, firing on all cylinders.
