Vega Tapas Cafe Description:
Since the 1990s when Vega Tapas Café was launched as a tapas bar, the place has evolved, these days giving the small Spanish-inspired dishes little more than lip service. Tilting to a more pan-Mediterranean theme, influences and traditions appear mixed, seemingly at random. The result is eclectic, but imaginative enough to court even the most discriminating tapas enthusiast. Start with a crisp strudel filled with leeks, feta and wild mushrooms. The grilled Gulf fish is served over an artichoke risotto with lemon caper butter. The pièce de résistance may be the chef's seared diver scallops over a butternut squash purée with crispy leeks. The wine list is an international delight, but diners appreciate the corkage amnesty every Sunday evening and the half-price wines on Monday. Stop in on Tuesday for $2 tapas and sangría specials. On Wednesday, all wines by the glass are $5 in the evening.
