Tasca Restaurant Description:
Along Third Street's crowded restaurant row, this homey storefront with a brilliant blue façade and soothing olive green interior features a long wine bar on one side of the candlelit room and polished wood tables and banquettes on the other. The distinctly European vibe is carried throughout the menu: although Spain takes center stage, other Mediterranean influences are well represented. Crostini topped with delicate white anchovies, tomato and egg represents one of the better dishes, along with a solid boudin noir with sautéed apples and onions. A classic tortilla española is topped with a curious but not unappealing whiskey sauce, while straightforward chicken liver mousse is creamy and addictive. Baby octopus may be disappointing---hardly as tender as you'd find in any corner of the Mediterranean. But the duck confit (offered among a selection of larger plates) is the stuff any respectable French bistro could brag about.
