This smart Italian delivers the goods to an equally smart, local Mayfair crowd of diners. The décor is pleasant, from the part-tiled, part-wooden floor to the yellow and brown chairs and crisp linen. In this setting, the fireworks are provided by the cooking. Antipasti of baby buffalo mozzarella with aubergine caviar and red wine vinegar dressing is a simple dish of good ingredients simply treated; homemade pappardelle with duck ragù is robust in flavour; while dishes like confit of rabbit with a fricassée of mushrooms, bacon and sweet onion or a classic veal Milanese satisfy the heartiest of appetites. If you have any room left, try the classic tiramisu with dark chocolate or go healthy (relatively) with a fruit salad and lemon sorbet. The service is first-rate and the wine list is a lesson in top Italians---though with a top price list attached.
