Blueprint Café Description:
The view of the river is striking, so ask for a table on the glassed-in balcony. Otherwise this low-ceilinged room can be a little claustrophobic. At night, the view is made even more spectacular by a floodlit, glorious Tower Bridge. The menu, under chef Jeremy Lee, is modern European, pushing all the correct contemporary buttons, though with less verve than you might expect from the view. The menu changes daily and fresh seasonal ingredients are the strong point. Try baked asparagus with Parmesan or marinated herrings with Jersey royals and endive for a starter, then fillet of bream with olive oil mash and gremolada or wild salmon with sorrel to follow. Desserts tend toward the traditional but are none the worse for that: crème brûlée or cherry and almond tart with Jersey cream. The wine list is good. Service is attentive. Set 2-course lunch £15, 3 courses £20; set 2-course dinner £20, 3 courses £25.
