Baci Bistro Description:
One of Kailua's hidden treasures. Tucked away in a solarium along side a business building, off the beaten track of the Kailua entertainment district, this wonderful ethnic establishment is attractive, clean and inviting. It is considered one of the "top three" restaurants in Kailua and a gathering place of not only the locals, but many international visitors and visiting celebrities as well.
The fare is of excellent quality and prepared perfectly. The extensive wine list emphasizes Italian wines, but includes many California and Australian selections.
This is perhaps the best restaurant in the windward town of Kailua, although since Kailua is a bedroom community, it doesn't compete head-on with Honolulu for customers and standards are lower here. Baci started in Honolulu but moved to an old greenhouse here, now air-conditioned. Stick with basics on the menu---proscuitto and melon, caprese, roasted pepper, grilled eggplant topped with a garlicky eggplant-onion mix, plus grilled shrimp, chilled, with lime, mint and tangy feta cheese. The pastas are always good, but the star of the menu is the grilled veal chop marinated in olive oil with fresh herbs. The wine list is nice but limited. There's a new, sleeker Baci in Honolulu at Restaurant Row.
