Ice House Restaurant Description:
Named for the building's use in the nineteenth century as an ice depot, this reliable Burlington fish house now boasts commanding views of Lake Champlain. With two seasonal decks, there's plenty of legroom for guests to comfortably lounge while snacking on flash-fried calamari or salty garlic mussels. Casual diners flock to the second floor bar, where the menu offers a decadent caramelized onion and chèvre torte. Those seeking surf 'n' turf settle in the downstairs dining room for the deep-sea fare. Both menus feature a spinach salad with candied pecans and sweet julienned onions drizzled with a sesame dressing. Also noteworthy is the crab cake---nearly an inch thick and dense with lump meat. Drinks are pricey and the kitchen sometimes strays into mediocrity (turnover is the priority on the weekends), but it's tough to beat a fresh lobster roll on the shores of this mighty lake. And when you're ready for the obligatory postprandial stroll, Burlington's bike path is yards away. Locals swear The Ice House is haunted, but the only spirits we encounter are in a cocktail glass.
