Silver Skillet Description:
Notwithstanding the pressures of surrounding sophisticated restaurants, the Silver Skillet holds on, icon of another day. Breakfast, served all day, is traditional Southern, with grits, eggs, buttermilk biscuits and side meats (get the country ham or the grilled corned beef hash). We've had better sausage cream gravy, and the grits are just fair. But at lunch, the draws are Southern-style vegetables and meats for reasonable money. The grilled pork chops are tender, and yam soufflé, meatloaf, collard greens with cornbread, and chicken-fried steak with mashed potatoes and gravy and green beans give you a taste of what brings 'em back. The homemade ice box lemon pie is utterly sinful.
