Purple Cafe & Wine Bar Description:
This charming, low-key location---the original of the area's Purple Cafés---was one of the first restaurants to present unpretentious wine and food pairings in a casual setting. Offering a creative selection of small and large plates, the menu includes soups, salads, sandwiches, pastas and pizzas. Noteworthy pastas range from lobster mac 'n' cheese to smoked salmon ravioli with shaved red onion, capers and lemon cream. Our favorites among the individual pizzas include Italian sausage and goat cheese, as well as Gorgonzola and fig with caramelized onions, walnuts and fresh rosemary. For a traditional entrée, the porcini-crusted ahi or the grilled jumbo gulf prawns are winners. Order several of the "sweet bites" such as goat cheese pot de crème or pumpkin crème brûlée as a finale. Of course, the whole experience shines because of the extensive wine list, which covers European products, but draws heavily on Northwest vintners. Flights, glasses or bottles are available. Servers are pleased to answer questions and help you choose complementary pairings.
