This lovely restaurant overlooks a formal herb garden and features a double-sided, river-rock fireplace with an open display kitchen. Celebrating regional and island specialties, the seasonally-inspired menu includes local seafood, meats, artisan cheeses and herbs. Choose the conviviality of the ten-seat communal table with the best view of the kitchen or request an intimate private table by the fire or near the windows. Complimentary sherry is poured as an apéritif. The prix-fixe menu offers a choice of entrées---one seafood, one not. Mussels often star as a first course, perhaps steamed with fresh tomatoes, red pepper and tarragon. Roasted baby turnips with sweet potatoes and a bacon dressing is another standout dish. Soup can be a cream spinach and sorrel velouté or a hot-and-sour creation such as pumpkin paired with roasted chanterelles. A cheese course may precede your dessert. As the finale, fruity surprises abound in the summer, but autumn brings an intense chocolate cake that's always a treat accompanied by a mellow glass of port. The wine cellar is impressive in the depth and breadth of its Northwest collection.
