Portofino Description:
Portofino isn't the kind of place that's prone to putting edgy twists on old standards: it's where you go when you want your favorite classic Italian dishes done right. Located in suburban Warwick, close to T.F. Green airport about ten minutes south of Providence, the eatery is wedged into a nondescript strip mall between a barber shop and tailor shop. You might not bring a business partner here to impress, but Portofino remains a good "find" for a romantic dinner for two or an outing with friends. We like to stick with a good thing, so we often order the chicken sorrento, a generous dish smothered in mushrooms and artichoke hearts. But the chicken francese, pounded thin and tender and baked with rosemary, is also a standout, ably balancing butter and lemon. The linguine with marinara is just okay, but you can't go wrong with fettuccine Alfredo, chicken Parmigiana, or most of the menu's other old-school selections. The menu changes seasonally, and the early evening half-price appetizers at the bar make this a fun and frugal after-work stop.
