Iggy's Doughboys & Chowder House Description:
Iggy's Doughboy's and Chowder House is one of Rhode Island's famous landmarks as well as the oldest beach stand in Rhode Island. It was built in 1924.
They started out in 1989 with a menu consisting of doughboys, chowder & clamcakes. Presently, they have over 30 items on the menu such as: seafood dinners, sandwiches, burgers, appetizers, salads, ice cream and much, much more.
Oakland Beach's heyday as an amusement destination---complete with roller coaster, Ferris wheel and seafront skating rink---was wiped out by the great hurricane of 1938. But Rhode Islanders still make their way to this sliver of shoreline in Warwick year-round to bite into a little taste of summer in the form of doughboys---deep-fried dough sprinkled with cinnamon, powdered sugar, or both. Iggy's also offers an unexpectedly diverse menu of seafood, albeit mostly of the fried variety. An order of fish 'n' chips served with white or red chowder and a side of authentic local clam cakes is more than enough for two to share. Like any good Rhode Island restaurant there's fried calamari on the menu, as well as a market-priced lobster roll, but the non-seafood side includes burgers, shaved steak sandwiches, and a variety of "grinders" (the local take on sub or hero sandwiches).
