The Sidecar Restaurant Description:
Nostalgia meets modernism at this longstanding restaurant (it's been serving food in its present location on and off since 1933). Get your history in the front room, a converted Pullman train car, and your trends at the bar with its fruit-infused martinis. Chef Tim Kilcoyne celebrates the farmers of Ventura, Ojai and Oxnard in his ever-changing menus. You'll see heirloom tomatoes and baby greens in the salads along with seasonal fruits. The pork chops come from Niman Ranch; fresh fish from local waters. On Tuesday nights, celebrate the art of the grilled cheese sandwich with great bread, artisan cheese and live jazz. On Thursdays, you can build your own gourmet burgers with more of that wonderful cheese and neat condiment options; martinis are specially priced on Thursdays, too. Check for monthly events like winemaker dinners or farmers dinners, when the growers get to wax eloquent about their produce. Sunday brunch is just plain tasty. Don't miss the crock of lemon curd on the tables in the summertime.
