Buko Description:
Buko is deep down in the barrel vaulted cellars of an 18th century palazzo, below the courtyard of the Teatru Manoel Bar with access from the courtyard or directly from Old Bakery street opposite St. Albert's College. Buko is
basically as described in its slogan "Vino & Mangia". It is A wine cellar [cantina] with food. Wooden tables and benches, colourful wooden chairs are almost all its furnishings; the stonewalls and ceiling remain
centre stage. It can sit up to 100 very comfortably.
Wine Guru Michael Tabone has drawn up the wine list with over 180 listings which he states is one of the top three on
the island, definitely tops outside 5 five star restaurants. As the main scope of Buko has been to encourage and enable every wine enthusiast irrespective of budget to explore through tasting, there is a strict pricing policy affording the proprietors a minimum mark up.
Foodwise, there is a lightweight menu, mainly small plates like dips, salads and platters to accompany the wine. However because clients have made it very clear that
they require more substantial dishes, the menu also features an interesting selection of around a
dozen plates with weekly changes and seasonal themes.
