Min Jiang Description:
The restaurant on the tenth floor of the Royal Garden has been transformed from a very good, international fine dining venture into a very good, Chinese fine dining venture, with suitable décor to match. The peaceful, mainly pale colour scheme is livened up with dashes of vibrant red; pretty blue-and-white china dishes break up the walls. But your eye at first goes, naturally, to the glorious view over leafy, green Kensington Gardens and the rooftops beyond. It's a good venue for a dim sum lunch, romantic dinner or meeting for cocktails and dim sum at the bar. The chefs were chosen with care, the dim sum head honcho coming up trumps with the likes of steamed crab meat, stir-fried turnip cake with spicy XO sauce, or baked char siew puff. But if you want to impress, go for the Beijing duck and order it in advance. The specially reared and imported bird is carved by a waiter at your table. Nibble on the crisp skin which comes with a bowl of sugar to dip it into while the second option is prepared---pancakes served with two different accompaniments. Start with the traditional style, wrapped with leek, cucumber and plum sauce, then go for the alternative, served with garlic paste, radish and Tientsin cabbage. Six alternatives follow for the rest of the bird; go for stir-fried, shredded with ginger and spring onion. It's expensive---a whole duck is £48; half is £25---but an experience.
