Dish Restaurant The Description:
A "speakeasy" bistro hidden inside a wine shop.
Intimate midtown bistro offers an eclectic selection of 'Little Dishes', 'Green Dishes' and 'Big Dishes' from a Seasonal Menu. 'Dish of the Day' features fresh seafood. Daily soup with Chef's 'amuse'. International selection of wines by the glass and near-endless bottled wine 'list', as any bottle in The RumRunner - the adjoining wine shop - can be enjoyed in The Dish for $12 over retail.
The Dish is perhaps Tucson's smallest dining venue, but the wee size isn't the only reason tables are tough to come by. The food is what draws diners to this charming little boîte. The signature saffron mussels, steamed in a sultry saffron broth with hints of tomatoes and oregano, are a must: all that's needed to complement them is a bottle of wine from the small but well-balanced wine list. Alternatively, for a small corkage fee, you can grab a bottle from the adjacent Rum Runner wine store. Our favorite "small plate" is the herb-crusted rock lobster with a silky lemon-chive beurre blanc and a bit of tomato concassé. Follow these with one of the seasonal "big plates," such as the seared duck accompanied by polenta, wilted spinach, cherry compote and an ancho port reduction. Finish off the meal with one of the tasty pastries made daily in the kitchen. The Dish does not take reservations, but The Rum Runner is a good place to do a little browsing while you wait for a table.
