Tarka Indian Kitchen Description:
Folks south of the river have been abuzz since the owners of Clay Pit, Austin's preeminent Indian fine dining restaurant, opened a sister restaurant in Sunset Valley. The mall environs, counter service, and noisy dining room are a far cry from fine dining; suffice it to say, you're coming here for the food. Start adventurous with the samosa chaat---vegetable samosas topped with seemingly everything in the kitchen. Mirch masala showcases the fiery side (excellent with shrimp) of curries, while the korma is more suave, with a creamy sauce of cashew, almond and pistachio (go with lamb). The simpler basamati rice biryanis make the dedication to fresh ingredients evident. Beer and wine are available, though you have to get out of your seat to order a second round. But with every tongue-teasing item on the menu under $10, you easily find it within yourself to do so.
