Soup Kitchen, The Description:
Popular restaurant serving fresh-made homestyle soups and breads for lunch and dinner. Chili is available every day, and sandwiches and salad plates are also offered. Service is cafeteria style. Seating is at wooden tables in several rooms of a World War II-era building, decorated homestyle with an ever-changing array of collectible objects from past eras.
This restaurant was founded in Oak Ridge, has expanded to add a location at Market Square in Knoxville, and now has franchises. The Oak Ridge location is still operated by the original owners.
There always seems to be a line during the weekday lunch hour, but the line moves quickly and everyone seems to get a seat. At the dinner hour, there is rarely a crowd and the pace is more leisurely.
Bottled beer available (no wine).
