Bistrode Description:
Here's a true marriage of talents at this husband-and-wife chef-owned restaurant. Chefs Jane and Jeremy Strode bring different perspectives to the table. Jeremy, born and trained in England, began his Sydney career at MG Garage. He and his wife Jane opened Bistrode nearby on the site of a converted heritage butcher's shop. With an Australian background, Jane's tastes lean towards Asian flavors so between them they have created a menu to cover the eclectic tastes of local diners. Green lentil and ham hock soup sits comfortably beside pigs' head terrine or a Berkshire pork rack with Chinese vinegar. Don't be fooled by the simple "corned beef and mustard" on the menu. In the Strode's hands, the beef will be Wagyu and the result a revelation. The wine list is modest but well-balanced, showing plenty of selections from Europe alongside Australian stars. Jane is well-tutored in the sweet arts, so do try a dessert or a cheese or two. Orange cake and Valrhona chocolate sorbet should be right to finish off a meal.
