Village Sushi Description:
A tad off the beaten track in the University District, Village Sushi is worth searching out. Inside the cozy, mustard-colored space with walls hung with images of jazz legends, you'll find high-quality sushi as well as classic tempura and teriyaki a notch above typical Japanese restaurants. The friendly staff will be only too happy to recommend items from the seasonal specials board. You can choose among exotic items such as fresh raw Henderson Bay oysters, rockfish sashimi drizzled with a citrusy ponzu-soy sauce, and monkfish liver. There are also California rolls and futomakis, but the delights are in the more offbeat creations. Rainbow Roll, a California roll of sorts, is topped with---you guessed it---a rainbow selection of shrimp, tuna, yellowtail tuna, salmon and mackerel. Our hands-down favorite is the Hot Summer Roll, a rice cylinder packed with tuna, salmon, white fish, crab and green onion---and surprise, it's deep fried.
