Shuckers Description:
Located in the luxurious Fairmont Olympic Hotel, Shuckers is housed in a former men's haberdashery, retaining its masculine ambience with wood-paneled alcoves and parquet floors. Resembling a classic turn-of-the-century club, Shuckers sports a long, carved wooden bar and fans swirling below pressed-tin ceilings. Oyster lovers are well served, whether they order oysters raw, smoked, pan-fried or baked---as in oysters Rockefeller. Oysters also turn up in a creamy corn soup, a topnotch starter over the lackluster chowders or ordinary crab cakes. The best bet is to order from the daily menu of fresh fish and seafood. You can trust the kitchen to grill a fine salmon steak or seared ahi. The Mixed Grill Plate features halibut, wild king salmon cake, prosciutto-wrapped prawns, and a scallop and Dungeness crab mac 'n' cheese. If you've got a meat-and-potatoes eater in tow, they'll enjoy the grilled beef tenderloin in a red-wine demi-glace. Chocolate fudge cake and coconut mud pie are both good dessert options.
