Eats Market Café Description:
Every neighborhood should have a local bakery and café as pleasant as this family-friendly West Seattle spot. Managed by husband and wife duo Evan Handler, a third-generation kosher butcher and culinary school grad, along with Toby Matasar, former executive pastry chef for Tom Douglas restaurants, the café is a neighborhood destination. And for good reason. The atmosphere is inviting and casual with plenty of light filtering through floor-to-ceiling windows surrounding the cozy L-shaped space. The noise level can get a bit high but it's never overwhelming. You can hunker down in a booth to savor Bubbie's chicken soup and a piled-high Reuben. At dinner, try the market risotto, toasted pearl couscous cooked with seasonal veggies and a sprinkling of Parmesan and cream, or the beef brisket braised in red wine and tomatoes served with a side of creamy scalloped potatoes. Save room for an ice cream sandwich---a decadent concoction almost two inches high with house-made ice cream layered between two cookies. Too full to manage? It's also available to-go.
