If you're in the Greenwood neighborhood, head here for a pint and top quality pub food. A sibling of Hilltop Alehouse and Columbia City Alehouse, 74th Street proves "beer food" need not be "bar food." The menu ranges from Caesar salad with marinated chicken and a blackened salmon sandwich, to daily soups, a black bean pita sandwich with a hot pepper garnish, and a hearty gumbo. There's also a rotating menu of entrées, and a daily fish taco. All match nicely with the rotation of mostly local microbrews or a thick pint of Guinness. The wine list, while middle-tier, pairs well with the often-spicy dishes served here. While the alehouse can get crowded and noisy with the din of chatter, the music plays low and the service is friendly if at times overwhelmed. You'll be comfortable eating alone at the bar with a newspaper or taking a date for a casual night out. Prices are higher than at the average pub, but so is the quality of the food.
