Blt Steak Description:
The space is expansive---more than 300 seats---and the views are breathtaking, with a dramatic fire pit and live cacti framing Camelback Mountain. And some would say that the chef's pedigree is paparazzi-worthy. BLT, or Bistro Laurent Tourondel, is the personal stamp of chef and restaurateur Laurent Tourondel. It's true that the menu is similar to other BLT locations in his national empire, but fortunately, the food merits the hype---at least in a modern American steakhouse way. And this location stands out for its weekly blackboard specials trumpeting Southwestern flavors mingling with fresh herbs from Camelback Inn's on-site organic garden. The star, of course, is the steak, either Prime grade or certified Black Angus, broiled at 1,700 degrees and finished with herb butter. There's also the Japanese A5 Kobe strip (the highest imported grade of beef), priced at $26 per ounce. A consolation: Some of the best bites are the gooey-good Gruyère popovers tucked into the complimentary bread basket. The staff is well-versed with wine pairings, and will gladly help you explore some robust and wonderful bottlings (beyond Cabernet!) to complement that juicy steak.
