El Farol Restaurant & Lounge Description:
The building dates back to 1835, but it's one of the hippest spots in town, with blues, jazz, and flamenco.
Chef James Campbell Caruso is a master with Spanish tapas. His creativity, matched with good Spanish ingredients, make El Farol one of Santa Fe's most popular restaurants. For example, a simple dish of shrimp sautéed in garlic with lime and Madeira is a masterpiece of flavors. The menu also features paella, seafood and Spanish wines and sherries. After dinner, the flamenco musicians and dancers add heat to the atmosphere. In fact, El Farol has gotten in trouble with its neighbors on Canyon Road for being too lively after dark. But El Farol was there first. In fact, the adobe building dates back to 1835, long before Canyon Road was a haven for art galleries and jewelry stores. If nothing more, stop by El Farol for a glass of wine and a snack on the portal. The people-watching is grand.
