Mellow Mushroom Description:
Flower-filled window boxes, outdoor bench seating for waiting parties, and fanciful figures adorning the interior all work to distinguish this location owned by franchisees Michel and Leslie Panos. Besides pizzas, "The 'Shroom" offers salads, calzones and sandwiches. An array of toppings such as spinach, tofu and broccoli, along with meats that are cooked in-house, give the pie fan with health in mind a break from the standards (which are available as well). The house special is topped with a grab bag of sundry ingredients while a more classical pie is made with pesto sauce and mozzarella. Key to the quality of the pizzas is the dough, which is made with spring water at the central commissary, and sauces that aren't doctored up with refined sugars. Sandwiches may be ordered by half in most instances, and salads are a good buy. Pizza by the slice stops after 2 p.m. Other locations.
