Lombardo's Trattoria Description:
Nobody talks much about this cozy, green spot tucked into a remodeled hotel next to Union Station. Yet the Lombardos have fed St. Louisans for three generations, and many of the original Sicilian recipes are still on the menu. Despite the frequency of ties, the place is relaxed, and you can shatter the flash-fried spinach and dribble of pasta sauce (the marinara is weak) without getting mal'occhio from the staff. A chunky turtle soup is spicy, and pepperloin steak appears as two big slices of tasty meat, rolled in peppercorns, nicely cooked and sauced with mushrooms, peppers and onions. And the cannoli---done to order, with tasty ricotta spiked with cinnamon---is delish. Service suffers a bit in comparison to the flagship of the family's three local eateries, Lombardo's Restaurant, but is still pleasant enough.
