Wine Bar of Rocky River Description:
Wine bars are known as places to meet and greet, sip and snack; Wine Bar Rocky River goes a bit beyond the norm, at least in terms of the menu. The cozy establishment, nestled deep in a warren of quaint shops, offers cheese plates, a tempting selection of breads, salads, sandwiches and entrées as well as a brief dessert menu. Some of chef Jill Vedaa's combinations hit, and some miss slightly. Entrées include bacon-wrapped shrimp with creamy cheddar polenta, braised greens and hot pepper oil; ancho-glazed duck breast with dried fruit mole, pan-fried corn bread and zucchini; and salmon with curried sweet potato hash. The wine list features about a dozen whites (including sparkling varieties), a dozen reds available by the glass (prices range from around $7 to $18) and around a hundred varieties by the bottle. The list is imaginatively, if somewhat confusingly, divided into categories like "toasty," "soft curves," "forever fun" and "dramatic." If this makes choosing a bottle easier to some, it might prove intimidating or silly to others. Our advice is to roll with it and pick something that sounds just plain good.
