Taverne Sur Le Square Description:
The Tavern's St. Catherine patio is always buzzing in clement weather, as is the tastefully appointed indoor area at lunch, frequented primarily by local Westmount residents and business types year round. It is ideally located at the base of a few high-end apartment complexes and office buildings, namely, the prestigious 1 Westmount Square. The food is notable, although pricey for fish and pasta. The caldo verde Portuguese chicken broth is a fine starter, spiced with chorizo sausage, then followed by a properly grilled swordfish steak, set off with a Basque sauce, which gives the filet a spirited lift. The seafood linguine includes two large scallops alongside baby clams bathed in a heavy cream sauce, with the pasta al dente. Both dishes are overly rich, though, and suffer a tad too much good fat: see olive oil. The dessert menu features the usual suspects, but the Ooey Gooey chocolate chip and pecan cookie is a crowd-pleaser. The waitstaff is plentiful and attentive.
