Housed in a historic 200-year-old building along Place Jacques-Cartier (the cobblestone street at the center of the old town), this eatery offers a formal French atmosphere with polite and professional service, romantic Old France décor and traditional cuisine. Start with salade niçoise or foie gras. The salmon is a pleasant surprise or opt for steak frites or sole meunière. Finish with the house-made sorbets, crêpes Suzettes or crème brûlée. As is the case with many of the restaurants in Old Montreal that try to draw in tourists, there is a noticeable mark-up in prices, which is not always reflected in quality and service. In the summer, the outdoor terrace is a welcome refuge from the busy street scene.
