Hemenway's Seafood Grill & Oyster Bar Description:
Hemenway's manages to be both very old-fashioned and quite of-the-moment at the same time. The old-fashioned part is the food. This is a classic New England "seafood" restaurant in the sense that the owners search out sparklingly fresh fish from local waters and treat it simply. No New Age-y creations here. The Fresh Catch section of the menu lists a dozen plates---from sea scallops baked with sherry to grilled steelhead trout. Lobsters come in all sizes from petite (one pound) to prehistorically large (five pounds and up); you can get them steamed, broiled or stuffed. The raw bar is one of the biggest and best stocked in the state. The of-the-moment aspect is the surprisingly young clientele. Sure, there's always a fair share of wide-eyed out-of-towners, but the majority is increasingly of the chic, upwardly mobile or university-going demographic. The downtown location makes Hemenway's a good springboard for an evening on the town.
