Cuban Revolution Description:
Whether you visit the Downcity location or the much larger restaurant in Olneyville, the up-tempo Cuban Latin music will make you want to get up and dance. Luckily, the food is good enough to keep you in your seat. The traditional and original Cuban fare includes specialty grilled sandwiches with quirky names like The Bay of Pigs and The Fidel---the latter the traditional pork and Swiss cheese version. The vernacular fits with the restaurant's "revolutionary" décor, which features TVs playing documentaries on Cuban leader Fidel Castro's rise to power. The extensive tapas menu is good for experimenting with bites of albondigas (meatballs in garlic sauce), fried okra, and manchego and quince. The restaurant is also vegetarian-friendly, and many of the wraps and tapas are available without meat. Desserts range from the classic flan to a warm, rich Havana-style chocolate cake. Cuban Revolution is the rare place where you can still order an egg cream---a milk, chocolate syrup and seltzer drink exported from New York to Havana in the 1950s. Service can be a little haphazard, but the staff is friendly and accommodating.
