Blue Grotto Restaurant Description:
Blue Grotto is one of the many Italian restaurants covering Federal Hill like grated Parmesan on red sauce. Around since 1980, it has its act down pat---but knows how to mix it up as well. Chef Kory Ferrier delivers the old standbys like fried calamari with hot peppers and olive oil, veal scaloppine in a pink sherried cream sauce with lobster, and homemade gnocchi baked with crushed tomatoes, fresh basil and pecorino romano. But he also updates his menu with fresh soups, and puts a twist on standards like grilled filet mignon by serving it over a portobello mushroom cap with a shallot demi-glace in order to appeal to a younger crowd interested in more than the traditional pasta and gravy.

Review :
Truly a gem in Providence. I travel a lot for business and each time I come home to enjoy Federal Hill I know exactly where I am going. The Blue Grotto IS Federal Hill to me. The food never disappoints, the menus are changed each season and always make my mouth water. They must have an angel working as a pastry chef because I've never had better cheesecake (Sorry Mom) And the biggest winner for me is the wine list. There are pages and pages of different wines, I always try something new and the servers are incredibly knowledgable, always there with a good suggestion. If you are looking for true Italian flavors in a relaxed atmosphere look no further.
