Tin Shed Description:
Portland's sustainability movement reaches critical mass at this café, which is indeed a tin shed---but it's not as rustic as this might sound. Actually, it's a fun neighborhood spot with eclectic charisma; the walls are adorned with artwork that changes monthly. The food is healthy, but not freaky healthy---rest assured that burgers abound. On weekend mornings, the sidewalk is mobbed with hungry folks waiting for a table. The menu is basic café fare prepared with organic, sustainable ingredients---ramped up with plenty of whimsy. On the breakfast menu, for instance, the Sweet Chix scramble offers chicken-apple sausage, sweet onion, basil and roasted red peppers topped with Brie and green apples. There is a lovely garden with live music on some evenings to enjoy during summer months. The atmosphere is down-home friendly, and kids are welcomed with a very affordable children's menu.
