The Gilt Club Description:
Cocktails with the gang is ever so sophisticated, especially at this retro-chic downtown establishment. The banquettes and draperies evoke a feeling of New York in the glamorous 1940s or vintage Hollywood of movie stars and studio moguls. The menu is equally elegant, beginning with lush cocktails such as Tracy's First Love, cucumber-infused vodka and lime served straight up with a basil leaf. The talented bartenders house-infuse vodka with an array of ingredients: pepper, tomato, cacao, Roma tomatoes, tangerine. Some folks never get past the drinks, which is a pity because there's an eclectic menu driven by choice regional ingredients. Offerings may include stuffed rabbit saddles with chanterelle mushrooms, strozzapreti pasta, hen livers, wilted escarole and mustard jus; or house-made ricotta gnocchi with Calabrian chilies, English peas, basil and wild mushrooms. The entire menu is available until bar closing time, which makes this a fine late dinner spot. Gilt Club's digs and food are elegant but the staff here is friendly and accessible. There's no wondering why the crowd is so convivial.
