This brick building edged by its own park-like setting beckons downtowners as they escape their office beehives. There is always a rowdy, happy gang in the bar here at the "V.Q.," as the locals call it. The dining room offers tasty entrées such as phyllo-wrapped Oregon black cod served with wild rice tossed with local asparagus and pea shoots. The menu changes daily, depending on local food resources. The appetizer menu, also available in the bar, is tempting: try the grilled, stuffed dates wrapped with bacon. Service is snappy and authoritative, and a big city hum of pleasure radiates throughout the restaurant. In warm weather, a pleasant garden with lofty oak trees and stone tables provides a lovely way to feel part of downtown and simultaneously commune with nature.
