The Ringside Description:
The culinary icon James Beard had a favorite restaurant in Portland, his hometown: the Ringside. This classic steakhouse has drawn loyal customers since its birth in 1944. It looks a bit like a sports bar; the walls are jammed with a framed pair of boxing trunks, sports memorabilia, photographs of great matches, and signed testimonials from basketball greats such as Karl Malone and Clyde Drexler. The waiters, many of whom have been at Ringside for decades, are impressively assured. The beef is tasty, and the famous onion rings, fashioned from Walla Walla sweets, are crisp and flavorful. Top everything off with bananas Foster or the chocolate mousse silk pie. The suburban eastside Ringside, located at the Glendoveer Golf Course, touts the same menu of classics.
