Hotel dining rooms aren't often as boisterous and unusual as this one. Step into this large, multi-level room softened with muted tones and your evening enjoyment is ensured. Though the menu is down-home casual, the feel of the "roast house" is sufficiently upscale to make it an appropriate house restaurant for the elegant Hotel Monaco. Basic American regional cooking with a few fancified twists is comforting yet inventive. The buttermilk-fried half chicken is served with jalapeño mac 'n' cheese, collard greens and Meyer lemon gravy, while the Columbia River sturgeon is resplendent with yams, Brussels sprouts, andouille sausage and cippolini onions. Breakfast ranges from the light, such as house-made granola, to more substantial pancakes, waffles, french toast and omelets.
