McMenamins Kennedy School Description:

When Portland's McMenamin brothers purchased and restored this neglected school built in the early 1900s, the neighborhood cheered. The building now houses a restaurant, three bars, a theater, hotel rooms, a gymnasium and a swimming pool, and offers fine options for group celebrations. The food will appeal to all ages. Choose from standard pub grub such as burgers, salads and pizza, or more refined fare such as seafood, steak and pasta. There is also a very affordable kids' menu. The huge outdoor courtyard is pleasant in summer and enjoyable on chilly fall evenings when a crackling fire pit warms diners with its cozy glow. After dinner, roam the halls to view the eclectic art and historic photographs, or watch a second-run movie in the theater. If you're in a mood for more, retreat to one of the bars: the Detention Room offers cigars, Cognac and jazz, the smoke-free Honors Bar pours civilized glasses of wine with a background of classical music, and billiard hounds will find the Boiler Room to shoot some pool.
