Sometimes only a taco will do---or two or three. ¿Por Que No?, Portland's hippest taqueria, housed in a funky storefront café, is a comfortable place to kick back and engage in some serious eating with south-of-the-border flavors. The cooks here are committed to sustainability and use only local meat and line-caught fish. The pescado taco is a handmade tortilla crammed with fried snapper encrusted with spicy cornmeal, crema, cabbage, salsa verde, onion, cilantro and tropical fruit. Other taco themes involve Carlton Farms pork, Cascade Natural beef or Draper Valley chicken. The menu also includes some alternative-taco selections such as a salad, tamale, quesadilla, or a beans and rice bowl. Swish everything down with beer, sangría or a margarita or two.
