Dark wood, fresh flowers and plush booths lend Kona the kind of poshness you don't expect from a mall restaurant. And while it's true that many customers are there for a little R&R from shopping, this lively spot also draws singles, couples and families who appreciate a menu that offers something for everyone. There's no denying a certain pan-Asian slant, as evidenced by dishes such as chicken satay and teriyaki salmon salad. Nevertheless, your hide-bound meat-and-potatoes guy can be appeased with a double-cut pork chop or a prime ribeye, both served with white cheddar mashed potatoes so good they'll make his toes curl. Slightly more adventurous types won't want to miss the Maui tacos (stuffed with blackened catfish or macadamia nut chicken) or the Oriental Salad (which can and should be ordered with the macadamia nut chicken). And if there's any room for dessert, both the passion fruit crème brûlée and Kona lava parfait are earth-shattering. Folks firm of body and young at heart should check out Kona's killer happy hour, offered from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and again from 10 p.m. to midnight on Friday and Saturday.
