Las Cazuelas Description:
Forget previous conceptions of Mexican food---this, the food of Puebla, central Mexico, is fresh, mildly spiced, and thoughtfully prepared. Las Cazuelas was the pioneer in this still-edgy neighborhood, now joined by a half dozen other restaurants and bars along and adjacent to Girard Avenue. Alfredo Aguilar, the owner-chef, has trained his friendly staff well. They are quick to recommend, and extremely helpful. Try the tacos dorados---crisp corn tortillas wrapped around chicken and topped with sour cream, salsa and cheese, and the cocktail of shrimp, oysters and avocado, in a footed glass. The chicken mole is a must, as is the breaded steak, sliced thinly on a roll. Vegetable sides such as rice and refried beans are much better than most. Naturally, finish with flan.
