Hailing from the esteemed Tra Vigne in the Napa Valley, Karey and Joseph Scarpone have moved into the old Pigalle space and transformed it into a romantic, dimly-lit Parisian-esque spot with Burne-Jones walls and deep red banquettes. The food, however, is strictly Northern Italian and terrific at that. The menu changes monthly, but we've had wonderful stuffed zucchini blossoms, heirloom tomatoes, purée of pumpkin soup, pappardelle with wild mushrooms and braised rabbit ragù. Everything is fresh and local, whenever possible, and somehow the price level is comfortable. The wine list is short, but has some good choices for little money, and a number of after-dinner drinks are available. Monday night is BYOB and all the oenophiles are gleeful, because they can bring some great bottles to sample with the food. With a California sensibility and Italian roots, the Scarpones have created a restaurant that's going to generate excitement for Philly foodies for quite some time.
